I recently had the privilege of attending the North Country Heavy Equipment Operator training in Escanaba MI, and I must say, it was an absolutely phenomenal experience. From start to finish, the program exceeded my expectations in every way possible. First and foremost, the hands-on training provided by School is unparalleled. I was amazed by the amount of actual seat time we got on a variety of heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, motor graders, front loaders, compactors, and skid steers. This was not a simulated or virtual practice – we were out in the field, getting real-world experience that is invaluable for anyone aspiring to become a proficient operator. What truly sets this training apart is the emphasis on practical application. It’s one thing to learn how to operate the controls of these machines, but at North Country Heavy Equipment School, we were taught how to use them in real-world scenarios. From creating drain fields with precision to grading, digging trenches for pipe laying, excavating house septic pumps, and loading dump trucks, every aspect of the training was geared towards preparing us for the demands of the job site.

The number one best part of this school is the instructors. Especially Mr. Don and Mr. Dennis, very lively, cheerful, funny gentleman. The vast knowledge and the experience of how to work with the students individually is the best part. I highly recommend choosing this school for the training and experience.

Top notch training with very knowledgeable instructors. I went through the course at 18 years old and I wasn’t treated like I’m the new guy who knows nothing. It’s not a long class but you gain tons of experience, knowledge, and confidence. Highly recommended checking out if you’re the slightest bit interested

Instructors shared their work experience and gave demonstrations on situations that you can’t learn from books. I was there through February. Winter gives different situations. I can return in the summer and train on equipment free of tuition. 👍🏼

The instructors Bob, Don, Dennis, and Billy are hands down the operation runs so smoothly. Are they perfect no but they are human and understanding. They take their time in showing you what you need to know before you leave and if you’re successful then they are successful they hold their positions very seriously. Amazing school! The trainers are very good at what they do and as more me myself, I have operated heavy equipment my whole life since I was 6 yrs of age. I came here to get a certificate and for any knowledge I have not received, and oh boy can I tell you. You will be blown away on how much they can teach and how much they make sense. Another thing is that these guys are very forgiving if you make a mistake. That’s what this course is for. Learn from mistakes and fix your mistake! If you are looking for a school to learn more even if you have worked on heavy equipment your whole life, there is much more they will teach you. Would recommend this school for people who don’t even know anything about heavy equipment!

Time permitted me to come to this course and touch up on some rusty skills from being an equipment operator in the army 8 years ago. The office staff is on point and knowledgeable about somebody wanting to use there G.I bill. They have a motel to accommodate housing for out of town guys which is only 2 miles from the school house. Equipment is in good shape with hands on real life exercise / scenarios. Instructors are knowledgeable and competant in what they do. They are also linked with local employers and knowledgeable about jobs and keep students posted on opportunities upon completion of the course.

Response from the owner:Hey Raheri,
Here at North Country Electrical Line and Heavy Equipment School we appreciate honest and sincere feedback while trying to deliver 5 star customer service and student success. After looking through our student records I see you were never a student of the school or attended any of the School's programs. It looks like whatever school you did attend however did not deliver to your expectations or standards and for that I apologize. Our mantra here has always been, "Our student's success upon graduation is our success as an institution". Perhaps if given the chance we can help you in your future success. Feel free to call me anytime at 906-789-3123 and can answer any questions you have. I look forward to hearing from you and thanks for following North Country Electrical Line and Heavy Equipment School! -Josh Barron, School Director

So, I have been wanting to attend North Country Heavy Equipment School for a while and I am glad I did. If you want to learn how to operate heavy equipment the proper way, this is the school to learn at. What you get out of this program is what you put into it. The first day and half of the second day is class room, after that you are on a piece of equipment getting dirty. I really enjoyed my time here, what a great environment to learn in, Don and Dennis are absolutely great. Big equipment like the ones here can be very dangerous and what I liked about Don and Dennis is that they are safety first above all else. I learned a ton here from maintenance to operating the machinery in a safe manner. Also, you will also learn how to shoot grade with a transit, laser and measuring stick. Don’t think about it, just do it, you won’t regret it.

The Log Truck Forestry Program is one week long or 40 hours. This class runs from M-F 8-4:30. We offer these classes once a month.

Yes absolutely! We have students every month come through that dont have there CDL’s and learn the loading and unloading and everything else other that the driving. Then once they get done they get there CDL at Midwest Truck Driving School and then finish up there driving portion of the training once they have there CDL’s.
